Am I part of AAPI?

It was just a short week ago when we launched 2021 AAPI Art & Poetry contest. By now, we are pleasantly overwhelmed by the interest and support of the contest from many educators and high school students across the country. We are truly looking forward to great creative work from the members of the AAPI community. There have been several inquiries about who is considered as part of AAPI. Without being overly complicating, we are here to share with you the definitions used by the government. According to the US Census Bureau, Asian is defined as "A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam", and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander is defined as "A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands." So, let's just stay with that!
